Substrate Volume & Cost Calculator
Instructions & Assumptions
Number of Plant Containers: Enter the number of containers you plan to fill.
Container Volume Units: Choose the unit in which your container volume is measured (e.g., mL, Liters, etc.).
Volume Input Method: Either enter the container volume directly or calculate it from dimensions. If using dimensions, select the appropriate measurement unit (inches, cm, or m) for your dimensions.
Settling & Compaction Factor: This percentage accounts for settling. For example, 10% means multiply volume by 1.10.
Supplier Information: Choose the supplier’s volume unit and enter the loose volume per supplier container and its cost.
Results: The calculator shows a breakdown of container volume (before and after compaction) in both container and supplier units, the total number of supplier containers needed, the total cost, and the total cost per filled container (based on used volume). A progress bar indicates how full the last supplier container is. Note: The supplier container count is the total required (e.g., 11), where the last container may be only partially used.
This is an ongoing passion project and gets updated when I have time. Your support is of great value and appreciation.
I often struggle to find this information and find myself having to visit dozens of websites over-and-over again, so consolidating information into one place is my solution to simplify life.
